26-day trek to Manaslu & Tsum Valley with Nepal Mother House

My friend and I have just returned from a great 26-day trek to Manaslu & Tsum Valley with Nepal Mother House.

The owner of Nepal Mother House, Karna, was a joy to deal with from the start, being very professional and helpful at all times. The whole experience was very easy with Karna organizing all the details whilst allowing us the flexibility we desired. The trek itself exceeded our expectations and our guide, Jayaram Nagar (Jay) was always informative and ready to help, unlike some of the guides we observed with other groups. A number of other travelers we spoke to who organized their own guides/porters were impressed by how smoothly our trek went and concluded that they saved little or no money by organizing their own treks and that it was not worth the added hassle.

The extension to Tsum valley is highly recommended to see some of the last examples of true Tibetan culture, despite being situated in Nepal. November was a great time to go (our Trek was from November 6 to December 4) with reduced numbers of tourists and perfect weather. November is slightly colder than October but this was not an issue, with the coldest night we experienced being around -7 Celcius the night before Larkya La pass. Daytime hiking temperatures were generally pleasant.

Tsum valley and Manaslu circuit have recovered well from the 2015 earthquakes and there is no reason to avoid this area; in fact, they have suffered from reduced tourist numbers and need our support.

    Fantastic Everest Base Camp Trek

Mother House Treks organized our trek to Everest base camp, from the first email contact I felt confident. The trek was fantastic, the organization was perfect, we had a porter called Pasang (not sure if that spelling is correct!) he was very helpful, our guide Kiran was very good helpful and friendly also his English was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend Karna who made every effort to make sure the trip went well. Thank you for a great trip.

Great Trek in Manaslu with a Great Company & Guide

We ordered our trek to Manaslu Circuit from Denmark. Karna was very helpful, informative, honest, and quick at replying. When we arrived in Kathmandu we meet up and everything was sorted and ready - no problems. Our guide Pasang was also great - a fun and happy guy, who took good care of us and helped a lot when we were sick and could not carry our own bags. He made the trek even more fantastic, so hope to get him as a guide if you go!

    Incredible Trekking to Tsum valley

Just finished last a week a 15 Day Trekk to Tzum Valley Nepal. with the Nepal Mother House service. It was nothing short of incredible, to experience the Tibet/Nepal culture of the area. We visited a number of Buddhist monasteries and also stay with a family overnight, eating, cooking, and enjoying a culture that was so different and beautiful.

The guide and porter that Mother House assigned to us were nothing short of incredible, like having dedicated staff members who took care of all of our needs, from the education of the culture to serving tea and food at every stop, Not to mention providing medicine for a cold I caught.

Nepal Mother House is a professional service that really knows its business. I felt safe, secure, and engaged throughout the trip. At the end of the trip, both the guide and porter invited us to their homes for food and yet again a fabulous experience. There are so many agencies in Kathmandu who provide this service but how lucky was I to find one with such professionalism and attention to the details that really matter on a Trekk like this.

Unforgettable Trip in Annapurna Base Camp

Mother House Treks took us on a wonderful journey up to Annapurna Base Camp with a lovely Nepali guide and porter.

On the first day I was very sick and we were unable to walk very far, the guide took good care of me and ensured that we only walked as far as I could manage. I was worried we weren't going to make it to the top but he adjusted the timetable accordingly so that we could still keep to a schedule without overdoing it as I was still a bit weak during the following days.

A most beautiful ascent although also a very hard trek I have these people to thank for getting us to the top. In paying everything in advance it then become's the guide's responsibility to book and pay for the accommodation and the food along the way.

We felt very well taken care of and would recommend this company to anyone looking to trek in the region.

Karna was then so kind and friendly on our return, we were never forgotten.

    Thank you :)

    “Great , Honest Travel Agency”

I have used Karna and his company few times - and comparing to many other companies in KTM, Nepal - they are really honest, give you fair prices and dont want to scam you in anyway. I have used to for my trips: Three Passes Khumbu and for Around Dhaulagiri - staff, guide, and communication with Karna were on really good level.

EBC and Kala Pattar- trip of a life time and one I'll never forget.”

My friend and I booked a tour with Nepal Mother House treks to Everest base camp and Kala Pattar. We had a perfect trip from start to finish. We corresponded with Karna many months before the trek and Karna always responded immediately and answered any of our queries we had thoroughly. When we landed in Nepal Karna made us feel very welcome and introduced us to our guide, Kieran.

Kieran also made us feel very welcome. Kieran was very professional and it was clear to see his knowledge of the Sagarmatha National Park and his passion for trekking. Kieran's English was good and he communicated well and made sure that our needs were met and that we were happy. During the trek, Kieran was also very flexible and ensured we went at our pace. He also made sure we ate plenty of food and we had great freedom with the menu in the guesthouses. My friend became injured during the trek and we wanted to make a change to the planned schedule, Kieran accommodated our needs and changed the schedule and it wasn't an issue. Kieran really understood and helped my friend with his injury throughout the trek whilst keeping a close eye on my friend's safety. Kieran was alert to the symptoms of altitude sickness and made sure we stayed hydrated at all times. I felt very safe in his care due to his expert knowledge and experience of trekking at high altitudes.

I couldn't recommend this company anymore and if I do another trek in Nepal I will definitely use this company. After the trek, I stayed in Nepal for 2 months and I saw Karna several times I considered him a friend, he also directed me to an organization to volunteer with which gave me another invaluable experience in Nepal. Thanks a million, Nepal Mother House treks (Karna and Kieran).

Annapurnas, Nar & Phu valley trip Nov 2015

My husband and I traveled to Nepal in November 2015 for a month. After all the issues the country had faced this year - two earthquakes and subsequent loss of thousands of lives; political unrest; fuel crisis and loss of its tourism market – we really wondered what we were going to face. We spent a lot of time deciding which tour company would suit us best and were pleased with the relationship we developed with Karna at Nepal Mother House Adventures. Over the months leading up to our trip, he kept in contact with us, advising us of the latest news from Nepal.

We were originally going on the Manaslu and Tsum Valley trek but as many sections were affected badly by the April earthquake we had to refocus our attention on the Annapurna area. We wanted to do something a little different so added the Nar and Phu Valley to the Annapurna Circuit trek.

Our guide met us at the airport and the first full day in Nepal was spent with Karna sorting out our permits, itinerary, and hiring kit. Our guide and porter had been selected to cover us on our originally planned trip and I would have to say that they were very good but the guide's knowledge of English could have been just a little bit better.

Unfortunately, we ran into great difficulty as my husband became very sick in the Phu Valley at 4100 meters and we had to airlift him out of the mountains and spend 2 days in the hospital. We then had to reorganize our trip once more and after a few days' rest, we went to Poon Hill and did a shorter trek.
So, if you are still following this tale here is a list of pointers for your trek:

    1. Annapurna Circuit was incredibly quiet due to the lack of tourists. If heading there it is wise to use a local tour guide/porter to support their income and to ensure you feel safe at all times.

    2. Make sure you share your trip expectations in great detail with your tour company before you leave Kathmandu – if you are unhappy on the trip there is not much they can do once you are trekking!

    3. Find out what is included and is not included in your price with regards to meals during the trek if you take a food-inclusive package. This seemed to vary when talking to different people we met.

    4. Do not be afraid to challenge the tea house/lodge accommodation choices with your guide if you feel they are not up to your expectation. For example: if other trekkers have advised a very good lodge in the village you are heading perhaps you should choose that one.

    5. The Nar and Phu Valley were incredible – well the bit of it we saw! You need an extra week to cover this – there is very limited accommodation in this valley and no tea stops in between breakfast, lunch, and the end of the day. You are also at altitude. There is no mobile reception and, due to the current situation, very few hours of electricity.

    6. Do not leave home without adequate travel insurance – you never know when you might need it! Make sure it covers Heli Evac's situation as we didn’t expect it on my husband’s 4th trip to Nepal.

    7. Nepal is an incredibly beautiful country facing such sad issues – Please support the Nepalese people by using porters and guides where possible.

I think it is fair to say we would absolutely use Nepal Mother House Adventures again and we would really like to say that Karna is a very professional owner of this company; he has years of experience; was courteous and informative at all times and was utterly superb at getting us off the mountain and into the hospital – and then back up the mountain when we were ready!!!

Thank you Karna we consider you our friend.
